Archetype

Hero

Greek - To protect and to serve
Someone who is willing to sacrifice their own needs on behalf of others, generally associated as the main protagonist in games and are generally result is some form of self-sacrifice at some stage. They are commonly known for their nobility or noble qualities.

Mentor

Usually is a positive figure who aids or trains the Hero (Normally at the start, in games they act as a tutorial almost). They also provide a rich relationship for the Hero, for example in Star Wars the bond between Luke and Obi One. They often give the Hero a gift of some sort, and in the same context in Star Wars a light saber. It's important to note Mentors can appear at any stage in a game, and there is no limit to how many you can have but the fewer you have the more rich and personal the relationship could be. They are associated with giving the Protagonist direction and tuition.

Threshold Guardian

All heroes will encounter obstacles on the road to adventure. They are placed at each gateway to a new world (physically or metaphorically), they are positioned in such places to keep the unworthy from entering. They provide a menacing face to the hero, but in some cases eventually become allies depending on later or current events.

Shapeshifter

Heroes often encounter figures, usually the opposite sex whose primary characteristics appear to change from the Heroes point of view. Usually manifests as the heroes love interest throughout the story and can eventually cause conflict between two Heroes (which adds another dynamic to the game).

Shadow

Represents the energy of the darkside, it is usually used to represent villains, antagonists or enemies. It can manifest in the form of the part of the Heroes personality (such as a Hero/Shadow combination).

Trickster

The Trickster embodies the energies of mischief and desire for change. All characters who are primarily clowns or comical sidekicks express the architype. They can also help ground the audience at important parts of the story as because they are not serious much of the time, when they are it seems to be more significant than someone who is always in that mind-state.
