The Design Process

Define

The problem, the constraints.

Constraints of this project :
  • Minimum of two characters (Protagonist & Antagonist) 
  • Develop a story based upon the structure of the Heroes Journey cycle.
  • Develop four game play mechanics for the USP ( Unique Selling Points )
  • Develop three environmental ideas.
  • Define a Genre, target audience, format and synopsis of your game idea.



Collect

"Information will dictate your ideas."

Qualitative Research - Understanding of human behaviors and the reasons that govern such behavior. 


Constructive Research - Helps develop solutions to a problem.


Design Research - Investigating similar solutions in the field or related areas. Media's for research could consist of films, books (how the stories are written), games, art, historical information, visual styles and images which relate to the starting point of the the problem.





Brainstorm & Analyze
Thought maps, lists, ideas, concepts and looking at the research you have collected and making sense of it. Formalizing the findings in to something usable. 


Develop
Mechanic, design, story, game play, level design (blockmaps)

Feedback
Refined by educated response, critical feedback & research.


Improve
Using the feedback and feedforward.
